Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson entered the 2020 season as the favorites to win the NFL's Most Valuable Player award. But it's another quarterback that now is favored to win the MVP trophy.
Mahomes won the NFL's MVP award in 2018, throwing 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in his first full season as the starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs. Even though Mahomes would win Super Bowl MVP in 2019, he would be outdone in the regular season by Jackson.
Similar to Mahomes, in his first full season as the starting signal-caller of the Baltimore Ravens, Jackson was the unanimous MVP in 2019. Jackson was the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 3,000+ yards and rush for 1,000+ yards in the same season.
But one-upping them this season is the QB from Seattle. Russell Wilson has been crowned the new favorite to win the NFL MVP award. The franchise quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks has been nearly unstoppable to begin the 2020 campaign. The six-time Pro Bowler has completed a whopping 82.5 percent of his passes for 610 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception in the first two weeks.
To illustrate just how dominant Wilson has been, he's thrown just two more incompletions than touchdowns so far. The mobile quarterback has also contributed a modest 68 yards on eight rushing attempts as well.
Surprisingly enough, despite having phenomenal seasons in his career before, Russell Wilson has never received a single vote for the NFL MVP award. If the Seahawks continue to ‘Let Russ Cook' then the 31-year-old quarterback could be on his way to securing his first NFL MVP in 2020.
