Former Washington State Cougars safety Jalen Thompson found out on Saturday that he was ruled ineligible for his senior season, so he will be entering the NFL supplemental draft, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Thompson was an All-Pac 12 safety last year for the Cougars but according to the Spokesman-Review, he purchased an over the counter supplement at a nutrition store, and that is why he has been ruled ineligible.

The Cougars confirmed in a statement that Thompson would not be returning to the team.

“Washington State University safety Jalen Thompson will not return for his senior season after losing his final year of eligibility due to a violation of NCAA rules. Thompson has entered the NFL Supplemental Draft set for later next month.”

The supplement draft allows players who have been ruled ineligible at their schools after the draft to get a chance to be in the league without having to wait for the next NFL draft.

Teams can place a draft pick on a player and if they submit the highest pick, they get that player and lose that draft pick for the next NFL draft.

Many believed that Thompson would leave school after his Junior year to join the draft, but he decided he wanted to play his senior year with the team.

It's unclear exactly where he will be selected in the supplemental draft, but the expectation is that he will be selected.
