Justice has been served: customized Harambe jerseys are back.
For a short period, NFL fans were unable to use the gorilla savior's name when buying jerseys on the NFL Shop, which is “powered” by Fanatics.
The backlash against the league was stark, eventually leading to the ban being lifted. However, it doesn't appear that it was the league's fault at all.
ESPN's Darren Rovell spoke with Fanatics spokesman Meier Raivich about the fiasco, who said the ban was a mistake, at least for the NFL.
Article Continues BelowAn official from Major League Baseball reportedly contacted Fanatics complaining about too many fans customizing jerseys with Harambe as the name on the back. The company subsequently added the fallen gorilla's name to a list of auto-rejected words.
However, the ban was accidentally transmitted to the NFL as well. Luckily, everything has been cleared up now.
