Denver Nuggets shooting guard Will Barton has been sidelined for the better part of the 2018-19 NBA season. Fortunately, it appears he may be getting ready to make his return.

Barton has missed only played two games this year due to a groin injury. According to T.J. McBride of Mile High Sports, he is now considered week-to-week:

The Nuggets have announced that Will Barton “continues to progress through his rehabilitation program” and that ”he will be evaluated on a week to week basis going forward”.

This is certainly encouraging news for Denver. Barton has been an integral part of their backcourt over the last several years. However, the lingering groin issue has kept him out of commission this season.

Fortunately, Denver has gotten along quite well without him. They currently sit atop the Western Conference at 17-7. Perhaps even more impressive is that they have been rather shorthanded during that time. Aside from Barton, point guard Isaiah Thomas and Michael Porter Jr. have missed the season due to injury.

If there is a silver lining with all the injuries, it is that the Nuggets' starting lineup has proven capable of competing with any team in the league. Once they are able to fortify their bench with the return of Barton and Thomas, there is no telling where Denver can accomplish moving forward. Although it is far-fetched to think they can maintain their status as the No. 1 seed, it is safe to assume they will be a formidable playoff opponent once their roster is at full strength.
