Bill Belichick has never been one for revealing information to the media. The New England Patriots head coach has always shared a tenuous relationship with the press, especially during postgame and post-practice conferences. Belichick kept up tradition throughout Patriots voluntary OTAs. He kept his lips sealed on whether Matt Patricia or Joe Judge would call the plays on offense.
“We are months away (from that),” Belichick said May 23. “Months…what are we talking about? Minicamp plays? … When we get to it, we’ll get to it…the execution of the plays are a lot more important than the plays themselves.”
It's only been a few short weeks, but a report from the Athletic's Jeff Howe suggests Belichick is closing in on the Patriots' next offensive playcaller.

He says both coaches are “preparing for the possibility of calling plays,” and that Patricia has taken a majority of the reps in training camp thus far. Howe also reports that a source claims that the decision is trending in Patricia's direction.
A quarterback competition in training camp is fairly common. Belichick is taking it one step further with a coaching competition. There has been no official word yet, but it seems as though the Patriots are one step further to handing the keys to Patricia.
Mandatory minicamp in New England begins tomorrow, followed by two more weeks of Voluntary OTAs. It is seemingly a matter of time before Belichick reveals his plans for the upcoming season.
