Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson appeared on the team's injury report on Monday due to an ankle injury, and on Tuesday, it was revealed that he underwent on an MRI, according to Les Carpenter of The Washington Post.
Peterson suffered the injury during the third quarter of the Redskins' loss to the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday.
Washington did not practice on Monday, but Peterson would have sat out if it did.
On the season overall, Peterson has rushed for 307 yards and a touchdown while averaging a meager 3.7 yards per carry. However, over the last couple of weeks, the veteran halfback has kicked it into gear, as he carried the ball 20 times for 81 yards against the 49ers and went for 118 yards on 23 attempts during the Redskins' Week 6 win over the Miami Dolphins.
Peterson initially joined Washington in August 2018 and had a Renaissance season with the club last year, totaling 1,042 yards and seven scores on the ground while posting 4.2 yards per attempt.

Knee injuries have made Peterson a shell of what he once was, as he spent the first 10 years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and made seven Pro Bowl appearances while earning three First-Team All-Pro selections along the way, leading the league in rushing three times.
His best season came back in 2012, when he racked up 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns while registering six yards per carry.
The Redskins are now 1-6 on the season and will take on Peterson's former Vikings club on Thursday night.
