The Washington Redskins have one of the most interesting quarterback competitions in the league heading into next season.

As a result of Alex Smith suffering a gruesome broken leg injury that will take him all of 2019 to recover from, the Redskins' starting quarterback job is ripe for the taking, and there are three signal-callers vying for the position.

First, you have Colt McCoy, who has been on the roster since 2014 and relieved Smith this past year before suffering a broken leg himself. McCoy has undergone three surgeries to repair his leg this offseason, and while he should be ready for training camp, he seems the least likely to win the job.

Then, there is Dwayne Haskins, whom Washington selected with the 15th overall pick of the NFL Draft in April. Sure, Haskins is unquestionably the franchise's quarterback of the future, but whether or not he will be ready to start on opening day is up for debate.

Finally, the third member of the race is Case Keenum, whom the Redskins acquired in a trade with the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason.

Keenum has some experience as a starter, as he led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship Game two seasons ago and was the No. 1 quarterback for the Broncos this past year.

As for his take on the quarterback competition in Washington? He just wants to help the team in any way he can:

“I think first of all my job is to help this team win no matter what,” Keenum said Monday, according to Les Carpenter of The Washington Post. “That’s being ready to play; that’s being ready to put our offense specifically in the best position to move the ball, get first downs and get touchdowns — score points. That’s my job. That’s what I’m here to do.”

He may very well have to be ready to play in Week 1.
