Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice missed his entire rookie campaign this past year after suffering a torn ACL during the preseason. But, the Redskins are expecting him to be good to go soon.

According to Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said he expects Guice to be ready for training camp, saying that he thinks the halfback will be just fine.

Guice, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by Washington in the second round (59th pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft and was supposed to have a crucial role in the Redskins' offense this past season before the injury hit.

He played three seasons at LSU, ending his collegiate career during his junior year by rushing for 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 5.3 yards per carry. In addition, Guice hauled in 18 receptions for 124 yards and a couple of scores.

Guice's freshman year with the Tigers was a quiet one, as he finished with 436 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, but he broke out during his sophomore season, racking up 1,387 yards while reaching the end zone 15 times as a rusher, registering an incredible 7.6 yards per attempt.

The Redskins are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won seven games and missed the playoffs for the third straight year. Washington has made just two playoff appearances since 2008 and dating back to 1993; the Redskins have made the postseason only five times, logging just two playoff victories.

Washington has finished in third place in the NFC East division in each of the last three seasons.
