The Washington Redskins finally made a move to get their guy. After the devastating injury to Alex Smith last season, they appeared set to roll with another stopgap option in 2019 when they traded for Case Keenum. Fortunately, they made a bold move to plan for the future finally when they drafted Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick.
With Keenum and Colt McCoy already on the roster, Haskins won't just be handed the job. He'll have to battle for playing time every step of the way, and the fierce competitor is ready for that.
“I'll be ready for whatever the coaches want for me, whether that's starting right away or next year or through the season,” Haskins said following the team's recent minicamp practice, per Jordan Dajani of 247Sports.
“I'm just going to prepare like I'm the starter and that's with me in the weight room, me in the meeting rooms, me with the younger guys, me with the older guys. Every opportunity for me is an opportunity for me to showcase that I'm the guy, and that's what I'm working on,” he continued.
Haskins also said he wasn't letting his brief fall in the draft get to him.

Haskins was initially supposed to go within the top ten picks, but he emphasized that landing with Washington's coaching staff at 15 was a blessing in disguise.
“For me, being here in a great situation as far as quarterback-based coaches, a lot of great quarterback minds in the room and older guys who have been there, veterans, and a lot of great players around me, I'm just excited to be a part of this team and get to learn from these guys and it's going to be a lot of fun for me,” he declared.
Haskins is saying all the right things, which should be music to the ears of Redskins fans. It won't be easy for Haskins, but it would still be pretty surprising if he doesn't end up starting at some point this year.
Jay Gruden will likely be coaching for his job, and he probably won't be able to wait too long.
