The Washington Redskins selected quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

While he was meant to be their franchise quarterback of the future, there was a chance he would start immediately.

That didn't happen though, as Case Keenum was named the starter. After two great starts to begin the year, he took a sharp plunge in his production.

This led to many people begging for Haskins to start. Those cries only got louder as the Redskins continued to lose. He appeared in two games through the first eight weeks but never started.

Then it finally happened in Week 9. Keenum was going through concussion protocol (which is why Haskins played in Week 8 in the first place), and Haskins was named the starter.

Although the numbers weren't anything to write home about, Haskins was pretty impressive. Going up against one of the best defenses in football (the Buffalo Bills), Haskins completed 15-of-22 passes for 144 yards and no turnovers. He was just the second quarterback all year to not have a turnover against the Bills.

Even though Haskins was strong in his first start, the Redskins did not want to commit to a quarterback. They have a bye week in Week 10 and interim head coach Bill Callahan refused to name a starter at first.

While he's still refusing to name a starter, it appears the expectation is for it to be Haskins.

This is exactly what the Redskins need to do. At 1-8, they are not winning anything this year. Haskins looked solid in his first start, it's time to give him the keys for the rest of the season and let him learn by playing.

Truthfully, it would also be nice to give him the New York Jets in Week 11 seeing as he had to go up against the juggernaut Bills already. Maybe Haskins can impress in these final few weeks and show why he was so highly touted heading into the draft.

Even if he struggles though, this will be an invaluable experience for the young quarterback. The Redskins just need to stick to their guns and actually name him the starter.
