Dwayne Haskins is entering the NFL with a chip on his shoulder. The former Ohio State quarterback let it be known right after he was drafted that he wasn't happy with all the teams that passed on him. He landed with the Washington Redskins at 15th overall, and his brief slip in the draft might turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Haskins will now be entering a wide-open competition for the starting job and will have a great chance to play right away. Case Keenum and Colt McCoy are both on the roster, but Haskins is clearly confident in his ability to beat them out in training camp.

“I’m going to prepare like I’m the starter. That’s me in the weight room, me in the meeting rooms, me with the younger guys, me with the older guys. Every opportunity is an opportunity for me to show that I’m the guy. That’s what I’m working on,” Haskins said recently, per Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com.

The Redskins traded for Keenum this offseason, and he'll be starting ahead of Haskins in the competition. But Haskins doesn't care about any of that, and he'll have plenty of chances to dethrone Keenum in camp and the preseason. Redskins coach Jay Gruden will be coaching for his job this season, and he can't afford to wait too long to insert Haskins.

Keenum has proven capable of filling in for periods of time in a pinch, but everybody knows he isn't the longterm answer in Washington. If he falters at all, it wouldn't be surprising for the Redskins to demote him before the season even starts. Haskins is saying all the right things at the moment, and the smart money is still on him making starts as a rookie.
