The Washington Redskins got the quarterback they wanted in this year's draft. They were able to stay at the 15th overall pick to select Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State.

Rookie minicamps are happening for some teams and Redskins coach Jay Gruden is already impressed with what he's seen from Haskins. Albeit, the rookie quarterback is throwing with no real pass rush or any pads on.

Here's a short quote from Gruden at one of the minicamps discussing the rookie signal caller.

“We're at the very bare minimum right now, but very impressed by his skillset for sure. Can really spin it,” Gruden said per Grant Gordon of NFL.com “He's just a big, solid, fundamentally sound guy. He's just a big presence in there and the ball just jumps off his hand. He also has the ability to speed it up and he has great touch, as well, for some of the short balls.

“He's displayed that he can make, in this short period of time, all the throws. … He's kind of displayed a little bit everything these two days.”

The Redskins drafted Haskins after acquiring Case Keenum via trade from the Denver Broncos this offseason. It's expected that the Redskins will have an open competition at quarterback between Haskins, Keenum, and Colt McCoy.

It's a good sign that Haskins is impressing the coaching staff and picking things up within the offense pretty fast. Everyone knows Haskins has a phenomenal arm, it's mostly going to come down to mechanics and decision making with him.

Haskins is coming off of a 50-touchdown season at Ohio State. It was his only season starting under center for the Buckeyes but he was the runner up for the Heisman trophy—only behind Kyler Murray.

Haskins will be hoping he can put together a rookie season that sees him win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award over Murray—making up for his Heisman loss.
