Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden will be back for at least one more year, according to J.P. Finlay of NBC Sports Washington. The expectation the last few weeks was that he would be back but even earlier this week he admitted he didn't know if his job was safe.

During the season-ending press conference, it was pretty awkward because he was trying to preview next season for the team, not knowing for sure if he would be around.

“I really don’t know why I’m up here, to be honest with you,” Gruden said at a season-ending press conference yesterday, via Les Carpenter of the Washington Post.

Gruden has gone 35-44-1 and hasn't won a playoff game yet, but in that press conference, he said that he is confident with the players he has left on the team.

“If I’m fortunate enough to be here, I feel good about the nucleus of the players that we have,” Gruden said. “We have to adjust some things without a doubt; when you’re 7-9, with injuries or not, it’s not good enough for this franchise. I know Mr. Snyder demands greatness from his staff and his players, and we didn’t do enough this year, so we have to figure out ways to get better. From the coaching staff standpoint first and then from a players standpoint.”

The Redskins have a lot of questions going into next season, including who their starting quarterback will be, but whoever it is will have Gruden running the show. There is no question the pressure will be on Gruden and they will probably need to make the playoffs if he wants to continue to keep his job past next year.
