It is no secret that the Washington Redskins have been bitten by the injury bug over the last two seasons. However, it will not hinder head coach Jay Gruden's approach moving forward.

Washington suffered more than just a loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. According to ESPN's John Keim, Gruden expects the next man to step up and help maintain their stellar start to the 2018 NFL season:

“Not really,” Gruden said. “It’s something you don’t want to go through, but it’s pro football and you have to go through it. … We can’t slow down. The train doesn’t stop.”

It is encouraging to see that Gruden is not sulking in the team's recent losses. However, there is still no denying that the injuries have started to take their toll on the roster.

Washington announced that guards Brandon Scherf, Shawn Lauvao, and wide receiver Paul Richardson have been ruled out for the season. That makes 13 players that the team has had to place on injured reserve this year. This puts them well on pace to surpass last year's mark of 23 players. As a result, they have since been forced to re-sign a number of backups to help fill the void.

Fortunately, Washington's promising start to the year should help them stay afloat while they figure things out. They currently sit atop the NFC East after a 5-3 start. It also helps that it has arguably been the worst division in the entire league. Regardless, they will still need to get adjusted quickly if they are to maintain their top spot in the second half the season.
