It seems coach after coach has been fired this offseason but there is still one that is waiting by his phone to figure out his status, Jay Gruden of the Washington Redskins. Gruden held his meeting with the media on Monday afternoon and at that point still hadn't had a meeting with management to figure out if he would be back for the 2019 season.
“I really don’t know why I’m up here, to be honest with you,” Gruden said with a laugh via The Washington Post.
There have been no indications that Gruden is going to be fired, but there also haven't been any indications that he is going to keep his job. Gruden has been on the job for five years but has only made the playoffs twice and is still looking for his first win in the postseason. Gruden said he hasn't gotten a call yet to meet with management and is just playing the waiting game till it happens.

Gruden said if he is lucky enough to be back he thinks the team for next year has a good core, and he thinks next year can be a much improved season.
“If I’m fortunate enough to be here, I feel good about the nucleus of the players that we have,” Gruden said. “We have to adjust some things without a doubt; when you’re 7-9, with injuries or not, it’s not good enough for this franchise. I know Mr. Snyder demands greatness from his staff and his players, and we didn’t do enough this year, so we have to figure out ways to get better. From the coaching staff standpoint first and then from a players standpoint.”
It's unclear how long before the final word will come down on Gruden's job but one would think that news should drop within the next couple of days.
