Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera's comments about the Quinton Dunbar trade sure seem to foreshadow what the team will do with Trent Williams. The Redskins shipped off Quinton Dunbar to the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round pick, and that trade shocked a lot of people.
Rivera said, after talking to him, the Redskins couldn't give Dunbar what he was looking for so the team decided it was in their best interest to ship him off.
“After having met with him and having conversations, I just felt that as the situation progressed, he was looking for something that we weren’t prepared to give and that was a new contract,” Rivera told reporters, via Peter Hailey of NBC Sports.
Rivera hasn't been able to meet with the new players because of the lockdown, and that meant the team felt it was just best to trade him and get something back for him.
“We didn’t know him and just felt that because of that situation and circumstances, his agent and his attitude just didn’t seem to change,” Rivera said. “We just felt that we were going to move in another direction, so we decided to move on.”
Trent Williams has made it clear he doesn't want to be on the Redskins, and with everything going on, Rivera is probably going to have issues repairing the relationship.
With the comments, Rivera probably wants to get at least a little return for Williams and it would make the most sense for the team to move on and get a draft pick or two.
