Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams has been granted the opportunity to seek a trade, though the dispute apparently is not related to his contract situation.

Williams' agent Vincent Taylor said his client needs a change of scenery in order to resume his career (via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk):

“Trent is excited to resume his Pro Bowl career with a team interested in a player of his stature,” Williams’ agent, VincentTaylor, told Ben Standig of TheAthletic.com. “We really appreciate and respect [owner] Dan Snyder for the chance to seek another opportunity.

“This isn’t about a contract, but time for a change of scenery.”

A change of scenery might be necessary for both sides after all that has happened between Williams and the Redskins organization.

The seven-time Pro Bowler–who was drafted by the Redskins in 2010–did not play a single down last year after seeking a trade for the majority of the offseason.

Williams also claimed team doctors failed to appropriately diagnose a cancerous growth he had been living and playing with for six years. He had the “growth of tumor” removed back in April of last year, and it is not expected to impact his health moving forward.

There are a number of teams that could use Williams' services at the tackle position.

The Cleveland Browns stand out as a team looking to make another splash this offseason, and acquiring Williams to protect Baker Mayfield's blind side would almost certainly serve to benefit the former No. 1 overall pick.

It might not be a surprise to see the Rams look to acquire Williams, either, especially considering former All-Pro Andrew Whitworth will be 39 in December.
