There had been plenty of speculation regarding the future of Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams ahead of the Oct. 29 trade deadline. Now that he has not been moved, it appears he is finally ready to make his return to the team.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Williams has reportedly ended his holdout:
A big move on deadline day: Trent Williams holdout is over, per source. He has reported back to the Redskins.
Washington had been tied to a number of potential deals ahead of the trade deadline. Of course, the situation with Williams had generated the most headlines given his ongoing holdout during the 2019 NFL season.
Article Continues BelowAmong the most notable teams that were interested in acquiring Williams were the Cleveland Browns. Reports suggest that the Redskins were looking for the equivalent of a first-round pick, whether it was a player or an actual pick itself.
It appears this may have been too heavy of a price tag to pay for a 31-year-old left tackle that has dealt with his fair share of injuries in recent years.
Now that Williams has reported back to Washington, he can now get credit for this season and will be on step closer to free agency. Although he is prepared to end his holdout, it is safe to assume that there may still be some bad blood.
While his return provides a much-needed boost to the offensive line, it likely will not be for the long haul if his desire to be traded carries over into the offseason.
