The Washington Redskins are entering the 2019 campaign with a whole lot of uncertainty at quarterback, as Alex Smith will likely miss the entire season while he recovers from a broken leg injury and Case Keenum and Colt McCoy are currently battling it out for the starting job.
So, obviously, the Redskins can use another signal-caller, which is why we have heard tirelessly of Washington's interest in drafting a quarterback later this month.
But with the 15th overall pick in the first round, the Redskins will probably not be able to land Dwayne Haskins or Drew Lock without trading up, so they may have to turn their attention to the less celebrated quarterback prospects.
Take Auburn signal-caller Jarrett Stidham, for example, whom Washington is meeting with on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Stidham is coming off of a junior campaign in which he threw for 2,794 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 60.7 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 137.7.
The 22-year-old arrived at Auburn in 2016 and saw some playing time during his freshman season, throwing for 1,265 yards, 12 touchdowns, and two picks while completing 68.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 199.
He then became the Tigers' full-time starter under center during his sophomore year and finished with 3,158 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions, recording a completion percentage of 66.5 percent and a passer rating of 151.
Stidham may very well be available for the Redskins after the first round of the draft, so it's entirely possible that they use their first-round pick to fill another hole and then role with Stidham later on.
