The Washington Redskins have begun preliminary contract discussions with the agent of linebacker Jon Bostic, according to Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic.

The Redskins signed Bostic to a one-year deal last May after fellow linebacker Reuben Foster tore his ACL during organized team activities.

Bostic proceeded to start all 16 games for Washington in 2019 and was productive, registering 105 tackles, a sack and an interception.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was originally selected by the Chicago Bears in the second round (50th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie campaign, finishing with 58 tackles, a couple of sacks, a pick and a fumble recovery. The following year, Bostic participated in 13 games, posting 84 tackles.

The Bears then traded Bostic to the New England Patriots, where he spent one season but barely played, logging just two tackles in 2015. The Patriots dealt him to the Detroit Lions that ensuing offseason, but he ended up suffering a foot injury during training camp and was placed on the injured reserve list.

He joined the Indianapolis Colts for 2017, tallying 97 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery, and in 2018, Bostic linked up with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he recorded 73 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

The Redskins went just 3-13 this past season and own the second overall pick of the NFL Draft this April. Washington has been one of the league's least successful franchises over the better part of the last three decades, as the Redskins have made just five playoff appearances and have won only one playoff game since 1993.
