The Carolina Panthers are in the thick of their preparation for an all-important matchup with the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Wild Card round, but there’s more to that on Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks’ plate.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Wilks has gotten a request from the New York Giants and the Indianapolis Colts, who are both looking to fill in a void in their respective head coaching slots.
Steve Wilks and new Giants GM Dave Gettleman know each other well from their days in Carolina. He's a coach that commands discipline from his players, so that will be big for Gettleman.

As noted further by Garafolo, Wilks won’t need time to get acquainted with Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, as the two have worked together before. Gettleman spent time with Carolina from 2013 until he got fired last July. Months later, Gettleman would be hired by the Giants as the team’s replacement for Jerry Reese.
The Colts, on the other hand, are looking for a new head coach to lead Indianapolis following a disastrous 2017 season in which they went 4-12 under Chuck Pagano, who has been fired by the team on Sunday after six seasons on the job.
In addition to getting interests from the Giants and the Colts, Wilks has also received an interview offer from the Detroit Lions.
Before being named as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator, Wilks spent time as the defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears and the San Diego Chargers. He joined Carolina in 2012 to serve under the same capacity before getting promoted to assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
