There aren't a lot of people in Philadelphia who still have faith in their struggling QB Carson Wentz. The 27-year old Wentz hasn't really had the best of seasons so far for the Philadelphia Eagles. After yet another dismal outing in Week 13, he ended the game sitting on the chilly bench in Lambeau Field.
From winning the NFC East crown last season, the Eagles find themselves in the third spot just ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and it's mainly because of Wentz' undeniable struggles. The signal-caller leads the league in interceptions (15) and sacks (50) and has ranked a 57.4 completion percentage which is 31st in the league. With those staggering numbers, head coach Doug Pedersen had no choice but to pull out Wentz from the starting and give rookie Jalen Hurts a starting nod ahead of their Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints.
But amid everything, Pedersen still has faith in his playmaker.
I think Carson Wentz can be an exceptional quarterback in this league. He’s proven that,” Pederson said via The Athletic’s Zach Berman (h/t to nesn.com). “Just get back to being Carson Wentz, back on track. That’s my focus with him.”
A week off the starting unit might actually be good for Wentz as he tries to rummage his way out of this 2020 hole. With Hurts clearly being worth a look at QB, Pederson and the rest of the Eagles can give Wentz some time as hopes he sorts things out sooner rather than later. They better hope so, with the QB's four-year $128 million contract looking overhead.
