In his second season in the NFL, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz took the league by storm.
Although an ACL injury prematurely ended his promising 2017 season, he earned the prestigious honor of having the top-selling merchandise in the NFL this year, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Per NFL.com, by way of SportsBusiness Daily, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was the No. 1 mover of merchandise in the NFL for the 2017 season sold through NFLShop.com.
It's quite an impressive feat given that he finished ahead of New England Patriots superstar quarterback Tom Brady. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, and Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott rounded out the top five in merchandize sales.
Article Continues BelowWentz has quickly become one of the most recognizable and beloved players in the league behind his stellar play on the field. The 25-year-old made significant progress in his development this past season where he was the frontrunner in the MVP conversation before tearing his ACL against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14. At the time of the injury, he led the NFL with 33 touchdown passes, and he was among the leaders with 3,296 passing yards.
Wentz now has an opportunity to push himself into the conversation as one of the elite quarterbacks in the league alongside the likes of Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees. He demonstrated that he possesses the complete package with a strong arm, accuracy, and great decision making that should lead the Eagles to much success over the next decade.
The only concern that remains at this point is his recovery from the torn ACL. Wentz continues to progress through his rehab and should be back on the field well ahead of the 2018 season. If he's able to build off what he did this past season, 2017 could just be the tip of the iceberg for his growing popularity.
