Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz has continued to make progress in his recovery from a torn ACL and LCL that he suffered back in mid-December. This has ramped up over the last several weeks that has put him potentially on pace to be back on the field by the 2018 season opener.
The Eagles have remained quite optimistic about the entire situation that has now seen him avoid being placed on the physically unable to perform list ahead of training camp. According to Zach Berman of Philly.com, Wentz has voiced that he likes where he is at physically at this point in time.
“We’ve got a good plan,” Wentz said. “It’s not just me making a decision. It’s not just coach. It’s not just the docs. It’s a [combination] of everybody. …I like where I’m at right now.”
The 25-year-old has pushed through to the point where the team has grown confident that he will reach his target date of Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6. At the same time, there is no rush for him to be back on the field by that game due to the injuries that he's rehabbing from and the type and the presence of Nick Foles as the backup.
Wentz has been able to increase his level of involvement this offseason in team-related activities while showing no limitation in his physical ability over the last few weeks. The fact that he has taken part of training camp as a full participant that includes an 11-on-11 drill is a highly encouraging sign of where's at just over a month before the start of the 2018 campaign.
If he continues to stay on this play, there would be no reason to believe he won't be able to under center when the Eagles begin their quest to defend their title.
