The Indianapolis Colts held an introductory press conference for new quarterback Carson Wentz on Thursday, but his ugly divorce from the Philadelphia Eagles was an early topic of focus.

Wentz acknowledged he was frustrated the 2020 season did not go as he envisioned. However, the former No. 2 overall pick clarified there are no hard feelings towards the organization or fan base:

Wentz also said he is at peace knowing he poured everything he had into the franchise from the time he was drafted in 2016:

“When I lay my head on the pillow at night, I can sleep well knowing I poured everything I had into that city (for five years),” Carson Wentz said, via Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star.

The former Eagles signal-caller said he was even a bit emotional leaving the City of Brotherly Love on Thursday:

“Really, leaving Philly this morning and getting on a plane to come to Indy was kind of a final goodbye,” Carson Wentz said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

Wentz's legacy with the Eagles will likely not be determined for years to come. But the 2020 struggles should not overshadow everything he achieved.

The Eagles do not win the Super Bowl if not for his MVP-caliber season in 2017. No, Wentz did not play in the playoffs due to the torn ACL suffered late in the regular season. Still, his contributions were massive.

It is also important to remember Wentz dragged an injury-riddled Eagles team to the playoffs in 2019. He dealt with aging receivers and injuries on the offensive line and still managed to have success.

Carson Wentz will likely be excited to get to work in Indy. But he has nothing but fondness for his Eagles years.
