Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is recovering well from his serious knee injury which he suffered late last season and kept him out of their run to the Super Bowl. He’s already progressed to running and hopes to be back by Week 1.

But despite the team’s hope that he alters his style and learns to protect himself to prevent a similar injury from occurring, Wentz says he’s not going to change how he plays.

“There will always be speculation, that’s just part of the business,” Wentz said per Bob Grotz of the Delaware County Daily Times. “But I’m not going to change. I think I’m always going to learn. I know from the first year to the second year I thought I learned quite a bit about protecting myself. Then, going back and watching again, there’s things you just keep learning from. But as far as just overall changing my style, that’s not going to happen.”

It’s understandable for Wentz to share Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson’s sentiments and have some reluctance in terms of changing his style of play. He’s played a certain way for most of his football-playing life and he has had a lot of success playing that way.

However, it’s in the Eagles’ best interest to keep their franchise quarterback out of harm’s way as often as possible. That said, they’ll need to strike some sort of balance in terms of protecting their QB and allowing him to do the things that make him great to begin with.
