Could Philadelphia Eagles legend Nick Foles end up on their hated NFC East rival New York Giants?
It doesn't seem all that likely, but Eagles defensive end Chris Long doesn't even want to think about it.
“I would hate to see him with the Giants just because I hate playing my friends, and if I end up back in Philly I’d have to play him twice a year,” Long told Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media. “But I think whoever gets him is going to be very lucky. He’s a leader. He’s a franchise-type quarterback. The tough thing is we have another franchise quarterback, a guy who is homegrown and is going to be a great player for a long time to come.”
Right now, the Giants' 2019 quarterback situation is in limbo. There don't seem to be any guarantees that Eli Manning will be back in New York for another season, and with the Giants owning the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft, it's possible that they won't be able to nab the signal-caller of their choice in the first round.
That being said, none of the teams drafting in front of New York really need a quarterback, so Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins, for example, could very well still be available by the time the Giants make their pick.
Foles has a $20 million player option this offseason. The Eagles can decline the option and simply make him a free agent, but they can also pick up the option and trade him. Or, they can place a franchise tag on him and deal him.
Basically, Philadelphia has a lot of options with Foles, but none of them seem to point to the 30-year-old returning next season.
