The Philadelphia Eagles are ready to move forward with Carson Wentz as their franchise quarterback. DeSean Jackson understands just how important it is for Wentz to be the leader of the team this season.

“We want him to be comfortable with us. We want him to understand how we are,” Jackson said. “I feel like when you’re in the building, it’s all football, football, football, and sometimes it’s good to have a flip side to go out and see what people’s other interests are.

“Obviously, we didn’t grow up together, but the better he knows us as men, the better off we’ll be, because he’s going to be our guy, and he’s going to be distributing the ball to us.”

Earlier this offseason, the Eagles lost veteran Nick Foles to free agency after delivering Philadelphia their first Super Bowl in franchise history in 2017. Just a few months later, the front office decided to sign Wentz to a four-year, $128 million extension.

Since being drafted by the Eagles with the second-overall pick in 2016, Wentz has shown he can be an MVP-caliber quarterback. However, injuries have hindered his development in the past two seasons.

In both 2017 and 2018, the fourth-year signal-caller suffered season-ending injuries that called for Foles to step in. With Foles no longer there, Philadelphia focused on surrounding their 26-year-old quarterback with more weapons in the offense.

Over the course of the offseason, the Eagles added Jordan Howard, DeSean Jackson, and Miles Sanders. With Foles no longer on the roster, this is Wentz's team to lead this year. All eyes will be on the multi-million dollar quarterback in 2019.
