The Philadelphia Eagles managed to secure their biggest win of the 2019 NFL season in the road against the Green Bay Packers in Week 4. Despite his modest numbers, quarterback Carson Wentz was far more efficient than he had been in recent weeks.
Wentz managed to make the most of his limited throws in the 34-27 win over Green Bay. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, head coach Doug Pederson feels he has started to find his rhythm in the offense.
“I think it’s a couple of things,” Pederson said. “I think, number one, probably the biggest thing is just understanding more of the offense. Knowing where everybody is. He’s getting the ball out of his hand. He’s making great decisions with the football. Getting us in and out of, maybe a bad play into a better play. We’ve used probably a little more tempo offense or no-huddle offense which allows him to see the defense, which he’s very good at doing. So there’s probably a number of things.”
There is no question that Wentz looked much more comfortable in the pocket than he did during their disappointing loss against the Detroit Lions in Week 4. He was able to bounce back by completing 16-of-27 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Of course, Philadelphia's success on offense was largely predicated off their tremendous run game in Green Bay.
Pederson will likely try and keep this balanced approach on offense going as Wentz continues to find his rhythm. It may not always lead to him putting up these spectacular numbers, however, it does keep the pressure off while giving them the best chance to win. The onus will be on Pederson to decipher between relying on the run game and Wentz's arm.
