Dallas Goedert was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2nd round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Despite the Eagles still retaining the services of Zach Ertz, Goedert showed signs early on in his rookie season that he might be the future at the position.
There were initial discussions about extending Goedert during the off season, but those talks stalled once it became clear that Ertz was also going to be on the Eagles roster to start this season.
A few weeks ago, the Eagles traded Zach Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals for rookie cornerback Tay Gowan and Arizona's 2022 5th round pick. That prompted discussions for Goedert's agent and the Eagles to pick back up.
Those talks culminated Friday in Goedert being extended through 2025.

Goedert has been one of the more consistent producers at the tight end position in the last few years. He missed five games last season due to injury, but still produced over 500 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
Philadelphia is rebuilding and working on developing young quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts has been inconsistent throwing the ball this season. So, it makes sense to provide him with a consistent safety blanket over the middle. Goedert has good hands and runs good routes.
Goedert will look to celebrate his extension this weekend as the Eagles play host to the New Orleans Saints.
