It was announced earlier this week that president Donald Trump had decided to cancel the scheduled visit to the White House for Super Bowl 52 winning Philadelphia Eagles later this offseason.

However, there has been plenty of details to emerge on the side of the Eagles that have backed the notion that an overwhelming majority didn't want to make that trip to be honored by Trump. According to Philadelphia Inquirer, it was fewer than 10 players that were willing to go to the White.

The Eagles were scheduled to be honored by Trump at 3 p.m. on the South Lawn. Fewer than 10 players planned to attend, a team source told the Inquirer and Daily News. Eagles representatives were in Washington on Monday preparing logistics. Owner Jeffrey Lurie planned to make the visit, the source said.

This has made it more clear that many of the players on the team didn't want to go to the White House to have Trump honor the team's impressive feat. It also takes any credence from the public statement that he was stripping them of their chance to make the visit this summer.

It is clearly a more complex issue that has more wrinkles to it than what Trump has made it out to be with his press release of uninviting the Eagles instead of them having no interest in going. This is his attempt to get out in front of the story to give himself the upper hand in the situation by stating his reneged offer being the reason for what this event isn't happening anymore.

What should be noted is that things had changed drastically earlier this week with many of the players pulling themselves from the list that made it just a couple of players along with team owner Jeffrey Lurie and the team mascot, according to Annie Karni of the Politico.

If anything, all of this makes more loud and clear that there was no desire from the players to make this happen in any capacity.
