The Philadelphia Eagles have come to terms with safety Jaquiski Tartt on a one-year free agent deal, as noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tartt featured in seven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before he hit free agency in March. He had an opportunity to leave the NFC West powerhouse last year, but he opted to instead re-sign with the team on a one-year agreement.
Amid the carousel that the 49ers had within their secondary in the 2021 season, Tartt was quite reliable for defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans over the course of the campaign. He earned 14 starts and also logged 727 snaps played on defense, which ranked second to free safety Jimmie Ward among defensive backs on the team.
Overall, Tartt finished the season with career-highs across the board, including in both tackles (66) and tackles for loss (five). He also went on to allow 19 receptions and a 95.0 passer rating while in coverage.
This signing for the Eagles is not much of a notable surprise. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman did note after the 2022 NFL Draft that when it came to the team’s depth at safety, he planned to “continue to look at that position.” The Eagles did not select a single safety in the draft, and Rodney McLeod, who played in 684 total snaps last season, signed with the Indianapolis Colts over the free agency period.
A crucial campaign awaits the Eagles’ secondary unit later this year, which comes after the team ranked 11th in passing yards allowed per game over the 2021 season with a 220.9 average.
