Much attention for the Philadelphia Eagles this season has centered on starting quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The second-year passer has had up-and-down performances over the early stages of the season. From his two passing touchdowns showing in the shootout loss against the Kansas City Chiefs to the sluggish outing in the Week 2 clash with the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles coaching staff has so far seen the best and worst out of the quarterback.

Hurts is much confident that the NFL has not yet seen the best out of himself and the Eagles offense. In speaking during a press conference ahead of the Eagles' Week 5 matchup with the Carolina Panthers, Hurts shared a bit on his mentality through four games played this season.

“It's been four games, a short amount of time,” Hurts said. “I think I mentioned it earlier, I mentioned it last week, about that identity and still fine-tuning and finding that and finding who we are. I said it after the (Kansas City) game: We're close. Clearly, we're not there.

“We're not winning, but we're very close and that's the confidence in our preparation and what we do and what we believe and how we work together and the relationships we have with one another.

“But no one is a finished product. This team is not a finished product. We're working and we're working to come on.”

Hurts has shown promising growth from last season to the ongoing campaign. In 148 pass attempts last season, he posted a passer rating of 77.6 to go along with a 60.7 on-target percentage. This year, through 145 pass attempts over the Eagles' opening four games, he has recorded a 101.1 passer rating coupled with a 76.6 on-target percentage.

The Eagles passer is set for a key test in Week 5 against the Panthers and their 16.5 points per game allowed defense.
