The NFL is not enforcing league-wide guidelines for fan attendance during the 2020 season. While some teams have already come to a decision on how many fans can attend home games, the Philadelphia Eagles are the latest to announce there will be no fan permitted at their home opener, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As Schefter points out, fans won't be allowed at Lincoln Financial Field until further notice from the Eagles. This means that at some point during the 2020 season, Philadelphia could begin to allow fans to attend games. Besides the Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers — who also play in Pennslyvania — aren't going to have fans for at least their first two home games, according to Schefter.

Back in July, the Eagles revealed that it was unlikely that fans would be given the green light to attend games in 2020. Therefore, the news on Thursday shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. In response to the decision, the team released a statement, noting how difficult it was to come to the conclusion they did.

“Everyone recognizes just how difficult and hard this decision is. We fully support the governor’s office and we fully support the mayor’s office. We’re going to continue to work with the officials as we go forward,” Eagles president Don Smolenski said, via the team’s website. “The nice thing about the process and the conversations is that they understand how much the fans mean to the Eagles.”

The Eagles are scheduled to begin the season on the road versus the Washington Football Team. However, in Week 2 they are slated to square off against the Los Angeles Rams at home. Even though Eagles fans were hoping to attend games in 2020, they may have to wait until 2021.
