Several teams have yet to pull the trigger on a significant offer to acquire quarterback Carson Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles. It's being reported that it might be because of a wrinkle in the QB's contract.

The 28-year-old playmaker's salary for next season will become fully guaranteed come March 20 which is set to feature a $34.7 million cap hit for the Eagles.

Via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:

“As one source involved told me, ‘what's the rush?' His guaranteed money at $10 million roster bonus is not due until mid-March. So these teams are sort of sitting back, waiting this out knowing the Eagles originally wanted a huge haul they don't want to give.”

As of the moment, there is no need to rush for both sides to secure a deal right away as the guaranteed money won't be due until the start of the new league year in mid-March.

However, Philadelphia has already hinted that they are aiming to get a bevy of assets in return for the services of Wentz, similar to what the Detroit Lions received from the Matthew Stafford trade with the Los Angeles Rams, per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.

Unfortunately, Wentz's performance in recent seasons couldn't fully account for the Eagles' steep asking price. In his 2020 campaign, the quarterback was only limited to tally 2,620 passing yards on 251 completions and 16 touchdowns through 12 games played. His performance under center wasn't enough for him to keep his starting job as he was eventually relegated to the backseat in the latter stages of the season.

Rookie gunslinger Jalen Hurts then took over the position and started the team's last four games to end their campaign. He finished his first season in the league with a total of 1,061 yards on 77 passes completed along with six touchdowns for the Eagles.

A year after winning the NFC East title, the Eagles found themselves settling on the bottom of the division with a 4-11-1 record in 2020. Due to their subpar performance, head coach Doug Pederson was eventually booted out after five seasons with the team.

Philadelphia is also poised to include tight end Zach Ertz in a trade package along with Carson Wentz prior to the start of the 2021 season.
