The Philadelphia Eagles are set to enter the NFL offseason with a few questions surrounding the future of several key players future with the team.Among those is veteran wide receiver Torrey Smith, who has completed the first year of his three-year, $15 million deal that includes a club option for the second and third years of the contract.
The Eagles have the decision to make if they want to keep him aboard with $5 million in base salary for the 2018 NFL season. With that in mind, Smith has voiced a strong desire to return to the team for another season following winning the second Super Bowl title of his career, according to NFL.com.
“It’s something that I’m probably anticipating, being back [in Philadelphia]. I think both sides know that, but I also know it’s a business, as well. You understand that as a player, and you have to understand to protect yourself. I’d love to be back, and hopefully it works out that way. Anything else that happens, I’ll kind of deal with it.”

The 29-year-old proved to be a valuable asset to the offense in the passing game recording 36 catches on 69 targets for 430 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Smith also played a huge part in the team's run to the franchise's first Super Bowl win by hauling in 13 catches on 21 targets for 157 receiving yards and a touchdown in the three playoff games played.
Although Smith isn't a go-to option in the passing game, his big-play ability is something that can continue to prove to be a huge benefit for the Eagles offense if he is kept aboard. His presence gives them a deep vertical threat that can make game-changing plays like he did in the NFC Championship game with a 41-yard touchdown reception against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Eagles are currently projected to be the only team over the salary cap this offseason, but keeping aboard a valuable offensive piece could lead to Smith returning another season help his team repeat as Super Bowl Champions.
