While interest continues to build for several quarterbacks around the league, particularly impending free agents like Kirk Cousins and Teddy Bridgewater, there doesn’t seem to be much of a frenzy surrounding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.
But according to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, the Eagles have received at least one “respectable” offer for the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
The Eagles continue to be confident that Carson Wentz will be healthy enough after Dec. 13 knee surgery to play the Sept. 6 NFL opener, and have had at least one respectable (the word I hear to describe it) trade offer for Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles … The Eagles got first- and fourth-round picks for Sam Bradford 17 months ago and feel Foles is better, so it’ll likely take at least that to pique their interest, and that’s likely not happening.
The Eagles’ valuation of Foles is likely why there hasn’t been more interest in him around the league. Although they’re probably not looking for the astronomical price of two first-rounders and two second-rounders that Bill Polian previously suggested, the Eagles have no incentive to deal Foles away anytime soon. That means they can hold out until a more than “respectable” deal they like arrives.
Despite Foles leading the Eagles all the way to the Super Bowl, it’s understandable for teams to first explore free-agent options at quarterback which won’t require them giving up valuable draft capital. Those teams who miss out on their top QB targets in free agency could be more inclined to meet the Eagles’ price for Foles in a trade. But until then, Philly seems content to stand pat and hold onto their Super Bowl-winning backup QB.
