Things have become a bit dicey between the Pittsburgh Steelers and star running back Le'Veon Bell as his holdout from the team continues. There is a possibility that a trade will be worked out, with the Philadelphia Eagles being mentioned as a potential landing spot for the 26-year-old.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Eagles have reportedly been “mulling” over a possible trade to land for Bell for quite some time.
Article Continues BelowAnd if I am the Eagles, who have been mulling the potential of a Bell trade for a while now, nothing I saw last Sunday would curb my interest. In fact, it would only heighten my desire to acquire a player of this impact given the way the defending Super Bowl champions have limped through the first quarter of the season. A year ago they stirred things up and dealt for Jay Ajayi; a Bell trade midseason this year could boost them even further.
Given the team's past actions that saw them acquire Jay Ajayi last season prior to the trade deadline, they are willing to add more talent to the backfield if they believe it can help push them toward earning a second straight Super Bowl win. This alone could push the Eagles to be aggressive in acquiring arguably the best running back in the league in the prime of his career.
Philadelphia has seen their backfield be heavily impacted by injuries through the first month of the year. Ajayi has had difficulty staying healthy along producing at a high level in the process when he is on the field. In three games played, he has tallied 155 rushing yards with three touchdowns that have seen him fail to record more than 70 rushing yards in any game this season.
If things continue to hedge south between Bell and the Steelers over the next couple of weeks prior to his return to the team, expect the Eagles to be a major player for his services.
