The Washington Redskins began their game on Sunday with Vernon Davis taking a short pass from Case Keenum to the end zone. However, this touchdown meant a little more than any other one for Davis as it comes after the passing of his grandfather.

On the play, the veteran tight end caught an out route and it seemed as if he was on his way out of bounds. Then, Davis hurdled a defender and showed off his speed to outrun the rest of the defense. It was quite the play for a tight end who is playing in his 14th season in the NFL.

Simply put, Davis wasn't going to be denied from putting points on the board on this play. These types of stories are exactly why we play the game of football. It just makes it better that Davis was able to make such a spectacular play with a heavy heart.

It's never easy when a family member passes away. For Davis, he had to play in an NFL game shortly after his grandfather passed away. Kudos to him.

Again, Davis is entering his 14th season in the NFL and is entering his fourth year in Washington. Before joining the Redskins, the 35-year-old tight end spent nine years with the San Francisco 49ers and half a season with the Denver Broncos.

Nonetheless, he has found a team who has embraced him since he joined the team in 2016. Today, Davis began the game as the starting tight end with Jordan Reed being ruled out for the game prior to kickoff.

Davis is more than capable of handling the starting duties with 573 career receptions.
