The Pittsburgh Steelers are a proud franchise that dates all the way back to the 1933 season.

Some rivalries for the Steelers are the division rivals that they meet two times a year, and those games are always extra intense. As for some of the non-division rivals, Pittsburgh might not play them every year, but when they do face off it's always special.

Let's break down the Steelers' five biggest rivals.

5. Oakland Raiders/Las Vegas Raiders

The Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers rivalry isn't talked about much anymore, but back in the 1970s, it was one of the most intense rivalries in football.

The Raiders were known as a tough-nosed football team that often times found themselves in trouble off the field. To try and get to the Super Bowl, the Raiders had to go through Pittsburgh, which caused some heated battles between the two teams.

The two teams have played 23 times in their history, with the Raiders winning 13 of the games. They have faced off six times in the playoffs, with each team coming away with two wins.

4. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots and the Steelers have had quite the battles the last couple of decades. The only problem for Pittsburgh is this has been a one-sided rivalry for the wrong squad during the playoffs.

The Patriots and Steelers have played five times during the playoffs and only one time has Pittsburgh come away with the victory. Tom Brady was always an issue when he was apart of the Patriots, but Drew Bledsoe was another player that gave Pittsburgh a lot of issues.

During the regular season, the Steelers hold the edge winning 15 of the 28 games, but the playoffs are where the issues have always been for the Steelers when facing the Patriots.

3. Cincinnati Bengals

If all the teams came into the same division at the same time, the Bengals would probably be second, but their history with the Steelers just isn't as rich. In the early 2000s, the Bengals started to become competitive again, and the Steelers showdowns with them have been harsh.

One of the added chapters the last decade has been Vontaze Burfict being added to the mix. Pittsburgh fans have hated a lot of players throughout the history. but Burfict might top that list.

It seems every time the Bengals and Steelers face off, some sparks fly between the two rivals.

2. Baltimore Ravens

There is no doubt the Baltimore Ravens are the biggest rivals of the Steelers since they came into the league, but that short history means they come into this list at two instead of number one.

The Ravens and Steelers' hatred isn't just on the field, as there is a big-time rivalry with the fans as well.

This is a series the Steelers have also had the advantage with. During the regular season, Pittsburgh holds the 25-23 edge. During the playoffs, the Steelers have won three of four games, which really gives their fans something to brag about.

1. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns and Steelers rivalry dates back all the way to the 1950s when the Browns joined the NFL.

The Browns were an elite team back in the 1960s and early '70s, and they matched up well with the Steelers and their dominance. Every time the two teams faced off, it seemed to be a battle. Even when the Browns have been bad at times, they get up for the games with Pittsburgh, and they always seem to be a battle.

The Steelers lead the all-time series with the Browns 74-59-1 and have also beaten the Browns the two times they faced off in the playoffs.
