Jay Gruden is no longer the head coach of the Washington Redskins; as the team fired him on Monday morning. According to Ed Werner of ESPN, when Dan Snyder makes his list of candidates to replace him, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is going to be on it.

Tomlin is an interesting choice, considering he is currently the coach of the Steelers and is under contract through the 2021 season. Though Pittsburgh is currently 1-4, Tomlin's job doesn't appear to be on the line. He won a Super Bowl for them, has been the head coach for 13 seasons, and is incredibly consistent.

However, that could change. If the Steelers continue to struggle, the front office could see it as more than injuries and departed players and potentially see the problem as Tomlin. They could terminate his contract if they don't view him as the future, or they get assets in return.

It's unknown what Tomlin would fetch in a trade, as coaches trades are so rare, and he's not coming off of a particularly successful past two seasons. But if Snyder and Co. are legitimately interested in the coach and view him as the needed leader, Pittsburgh could pry away considerable assets for Tomlin; who is a widely respected coach.

Nonetheless, don't expect Washington to go after Tomlin in-season. For now, former assistant head coach and offensive line coach Bill Callahan is the head coach. The last time Callahan was an NFL head coach, it was 2002, where he lost to Jon Gruden — who the Oakland Raiders traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — in the Super Bowl. He was fired after a 4-12 2003 campaign.
