Pittsburgh Steelers sophomore wide receiver Chase Claypool was a beast last year with 9 receiving touchdowns while only starting 6 games, which is special for a rookie. However, it appears that one fan (Steelers, maybe? Probably? Certainly?) saw even more in him than any of the rest of us.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook's Twitter account, one customer placed a $1,000 bet with some serious requirements for Claypool:
Dad? Is that you https://t.co/cx4rjiI0Ib
— Chase Claypool (@ChaseClaypool) September 8, 2021
Claypool himself couldn't even contain his surprise at the fan's boldness, asking if the fan could perhaps be his dad manifesting a monster season from his son, or something of the like.
Article Continues BelowWhile the bet seems a bit preposterous at first glance, a $91,000 payout for a relatively smaller $1,000 deposit is quite lucrative. Claypool is one of the most athletically gifted receivers for the red zone, as he's built like a middle linebacker and possesses the quickness and finesse to dominate smaller defensive backs. Although, it should be noted that 5 of Claypool's 9 touchdowns came in two games against the Bengals and Eagles.
For the Steelers as a team, their passing attack all predicates on Ben Roethlisberger's ability to play at a high level even at age 39. They have one of the most elite receiving corps in the league, with Claypool, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Diontae Johnson all capable of being a WR2 or better on almost any other team in the league.
It's still a big question if things are going to work for them, however, as they finished 2020 as a pedestrian passing offense, ranking at 15th in the league, despite having to pass considerably more than most teams given a weak ground game.
No matter the case, Chase Claypool is going to do his best to haul in touchdowns, and that's what should matter to FanDuel's hopeful customer. And for FanDuel themselves, they'll be watching Steelers box scores intently. Because $91K is a big payout.
