Diontae Johnson was cleared out of concussion protocol in time for the Pittsburgh Steelers matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he exited early in the game with another ailment.

According to Burt Lauten, the director of communications for the Steelers, Johnson won't return to Sunday's game due to a back injury.

Johnson sustained the back injury in the first half of the game and was designated as questionable to return. However, after hoping he could return at some point in the contest versus the Eagles, the Steelers have ruled him out for the remainder of the day.

Back in Week 3, which was Pittsburgh's last game before Week 5 due to the Tennessee Titans having a COVID-19 outbreak in Week 4, Johnson made an early exit with a concussion. Given the extra time that Pittsburgh had to prepare for the Eagles, Johnson was able to make enough progress to return.

Through the first two weeks, Johnson led the Steelers with 23 targets. The former third-round pick also had 14 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown in the first two games of the season.

Luckily for the Steelers, they are extremely deep at the wide receiver position. Besides Johnson, Pittsburgh also employs JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool, and James Washington.

Speaking of Claypool, the rookie wideout has already had a productive outing against the Eagles on Sunday. Claypool has six receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns and counting. He also had a rushing touchdown to give the Steelers an early 7-0 lead.
