The industry of professional gaming has proven to be very lucrative of late. This is exactly why Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is putting in a lot of his own money in a new business venture in this field.
Smith-Schuster has just established an innovative gaming organization named Team Diverge, which according to him, is the first ever athlete-driven gaming company. The 23-year-old provided more details on his latest investment in an interview with Ian Thomas of Front Office Sports:
“In creating my own organization instead of joining one of the big established ones, I know I chose a different path than most in my position would do,” Smith-Schuster, who will serve as the organization’s CEO, said in a statement.”
Karan Gill, the co-founder of Team Diverge who will also serve as the company's COO, shed more light on how their initiative aims to focus on the athletes' involvement in the organization:

You’ve seen collaborations with athletes in traditional sports with these popular gaming organizations, but to some degree they have become stale and repetitive,” said Gill “TD is going to take athlete involvement in gaming to a completely different level. These guys won’t just be ambassadors or honorary members, they are going to be centerpieces to the team’s identity.”
Smith-Schuster seconded the thoughts of his partner, while also expressing what makes this business venture so special for the Steelers wideout:
“I’m not just trying to be a popular figure in gaming for myself; I’m trying to build a special organization that is a platform for others,” Smith-Schuster said.
As for his football, Smith-Schuster has not exactly had a great start to the new season for the Steelers. Hopefully, his extracurricular activities outside football isn't serving as too big as a distraction for him.
