It took him a while, but Kenny Pickett's name has been called in the 2022 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team drafted him with the 20th overall pick as the potential replacement to Ben Roethlisberger. With that pick, Pickett will be staying in Pitt for the start of his professional career.

Pickett was one of the more highly-touted quarterback prospects in this year's draft. It was easy to see why: at Pittsburgh, Pickett showcased his incredible presence in the pocket. That was one of the main reasons why he was part of the finalists for the Heisman trophy last season.
With the Steelers, Pickett will be thrown into a rather interesting quarterback competition. The team grabbed former first-round pick Mitch Trubisky in the off-season as a potential stop-gap at QB. It's very likely that Pickett will be sitting behind Mitchell in the depth chart for his rookie year as he learns the ropes of the NFL competition.
This season marks the first year the Steelers will be without Ben Roethlisberger, who retired after last season. Roethlisberger's rookie season was a sight to behold, as he led the team to an AFC Championship Game appearance in his first year. Because of that, expectations are sky-high for Pickett, who the team hopes will usher in a new era of Steeler success.
