Quarterback Kenny Pickett was selected 20th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in April's 2022 NFL Draft, but as of Wednesday, he still didn't have a rookie contract. Well, things changed on Thursday as he became the final first-round pick to ink a deal with his new team.

Per Adam Schefter:

The Steelers handed Pickett a traditional four-year deal with the possibility of a fifth year. They'll decide on that in 2025. The signal-caller was the only player at his position to be drafted in the first round and the organization saw him play a lot because he starred at the University of Pittsburgh.

Pickett is expected to compete for the starting job with Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky, who the Steelers signed this offseason. They were set to have four QB's on the roster before the shocking death of Dwayne Haskins.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin recently said he's looking forward to seeing the battle for QB1 between Pickett, Trubisky, and Rudolph. This is a whole new era for Pittsburgh, which has had Ben Roethlisberger at the helm for over a decade but is now retired.

Pickett threw for 4,319 yards and an impressive 42 touchdowns in 2021 for Pitt and should be able to make an immediate impact at the NFL level in his rookie year. Hopefully, he can turn into the QB of the future that the Steelers are hoping for. Only time will tell.
