Shortly after the start of training camp last week, Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown suffered an undisclosed injury that caused the team to take him off the practice field immediately.
The Steelers have since aired no concern over the situation with the expressed mindset that he will back with the team at some point in the near future. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, head coach Mike Tomlin has stated that he's hoping that Brown will be back in the fold in the first practice after the preseason opener this week.
Brown has been out of practice for the last week while dealing with a quadriceps injury and head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that the team hopes he’ll be back at practice shortly after the first exhibition game of the summer.
This gives off the impression that whatever injury that Brown was dealing with was minor and something that could have lingered had the team allowed him to continue to practice. In the meantime, this does provide some clarity to the situation that he will be back in the fold well ahead of the start of the 2018 regular season.
Brown should be able to get some preseason action under his belt prior to that as well to get his legs under him. The Steelers are counting on him to once again lead the charge as the primary option in the passing game while continuing to perform at arguably the best wide receiver in the game.
Despite missing the last two games of the regular season due to injury, Brown was able to put together yet another highly impressive campaign with 101 receptions for a league-best 1,533 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. This made him the first player in league history to notch at least 100 catches in five straight seasons.
