There has been a general consensus as to the guys making up the top five quarterbacks in this year's NFL draft. Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are likely to go 1-2 on Thursday night. Mac Jones, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields could be snatched up shortly thereafter. Only, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not part of this consensus.
Ed Bouchette of The Athletic reported “some in [Steelers] organization fancy Florida quarterback Kyle Trask, per Andrew Fillipponi of 93. 7 The Fan. Fillipponi then added he's heard the Steelers have the Gators star ranked ahead of the aforementioned five guys.
Steelers legendary insider @EdBouchette says that "some in [Steelers] organization fancy Kyle Trask." I've heard the same. In fact, I've heard they have him ranked ahead of at least 1 of the perceived top 5 QBs (Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Jones, and Fields). So stay tuned.

Might this be an indication the Steelers could use their first-round selection on a quarterback?
Article Continues BelowBen Roethlisberger will be back under center in 2021. But none of Pittsburgh's current signal-callers are under contract through next season. None of Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins, or Josh Dobbs has shown clear indications they are ready to start in the near future. Perhaps Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert will bet on Trask, who will very likely be available when Pittsburgh is on the clock at No. 24.
Trask was tremendous in 2020, ranking second in the NCAA in passing yards (4,283) and leading the nation in passing touchdowns (43). He has drawn rave reviews for his poise and vision in the pocket. However, some talent evaluators told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero they have questions about Trask's mobility. Others are not sure he has the arm strength to compensate.
However, the Steelers are apparently higher on Trask than others. Maybe they actually leap to take him 24th overall or hope he is still on the board when they're up again in the second round. Trading up in the second might not be out of the question, either.
