The New Orleans Saints' red-hot eight-game win streak finally came to an end at the hands of the surprising Los Angeles Rams. Although the Saints were largely bottled up all afternoon, rookie running Alvin Kamara made the most of his opportunities with 188 yards from scrimmage on only 11 touches and two touchdowns.
Despite the losing effort, Kamara earned his second FedEx Ground Player of the Week award in four games. In fact, he and fellow backfield mate Mark Ingram have shared the honor each week during that span.
Here we are, per Saints Twitter:

Week 10: Ingram
Week 9: Kamara #GoSaints— New Orleans Saints (@Saints) November 30, 2017
The Saints rushing attack got off to an inauspicious start to the 2017 NFL season despite all the hype surrounding the addition of superstar running back Adrian Peterson. However, the run game was virtually non-existent early on, which led to some speculation as to how this team was going to manage the backfield moving forward.
Needless to say, things have changed drastically since Peterson's departure, as Mark Ingram and Kamara are now unequivocally the best running back duo in the NFL.
This is telling considering the Saints have never been known for being a run-first offense under head coach Sean Payton. However, it is clear that a new era has begun in New Orleans, especially with the uncertain future of 38-year-old quarterback Drew Brees.
The running game, combined with a far better than average defense, has the new look Saints appearing like a real threat in the NFC. Only time will tell how real of a threat New Orleans is, but things are looking good.
