When the Seattle Seahawks traded for Jamal Adams less than two years ago, the plan was for him to be a cornerstone roaming the secondary for years to come.
At the moment, Adams is without a contract extension and set to hit free agency after the 2021 season. Per the Seattle Times via the way of ProFootballTalk, the two sides sound close in negotiations but the Seahawks aren't willing to budge off their number.
Article Continues BelowPer the Seattle Times, the team made its final offer last Friday. Four-year extension worth $17.5 million per year, with $38 million guaranteed. Adams wants $40 million guaranteed. The two sides also differ on cash flow, with the Seahawks wanting to spread bonus money over four years and Adams wanting it to be spread over three.
The report also states the Seahawks are “not budging” off their offer to the all-pro safety.
Adams has shown in the past he isn't afraid to speak his mind and it's part of the reason the New York Jets opted to cut ties and trade him elsewhere. Adams made it known that he was upset with the Jets and the front office on numerous occasions before being sent to the Seahawks. Seattle will have to keep their fingers crossed that it doesn't turn into that kind of situation.
When the talks circulate around $40 million in guaranteed money but the Seahawks only offering $38 million in guarantees, the $2 million difference doesn't sound like a whole lot. If that's the case, Seattle may have to cave in a bit to get their star safety back on the field because Adams will likely keep his foot planted in negotiations.
